Kim’s Story

Kim’s Story

kidsKim and her children heard about us through the Portland Women Crisis Line. She had to leave her husband and was staying at a Recovery Association Project (RAP) house for a while, but it was not a healthy situation. She has not had a stable home since she was a teen, and was ready for a new start in her life. She asked for a place in our program and we welcomed her.

Her children add a lot of lively fun to our life here. Shawn, 1 ½, can and has climbed on everything here, and never falls! Katie, 3, is always very polite, saying “excuse me” when she needs your attention. Kim led us in decorating pumpkins and rearranging our living space. She wrote delightful signs to designate each area.

Kim has been applying for jobs and working on family and household relationships while she has been here. The discussions, mentoring, and classes have helped her grow in skills and stretched her in good, yet challenging ways. Kim is always ready to come back and work at making things better. She is making great progress. She is now at the top of a housing list and has the promise of a job. It’s looking good for her to be able to finally have a stable place for her and her children.
