Girl Scout Troop 40032 made bookshelves for each of the rooms. The girls did this project as part of earning their Silver Award, which is the highest award that a Girl Scout Cadette (ages 11-14 or grades 6-8) can earn, and that they worked on the bookcases one and off for over eight months. They designed, built, stained, finished and delivered the bookshelves along with lots of books! They approached Community of Hope with an idea of how they could provide literacy to our families. After some discussion, they decided to build bookshelves with the help of one of the dads. We decided together that they should be not too large and sturdy enough to withstand kids or even adults standing on them. They did a beautiful job! They raised money, bought the lumber, glued, assembled, and branded each unit with the Girl Scout symbol and their troop number. They collected books from many places and then delivered them to the house. Now each room has a beautiful place to keep by the beds to put things and store books. Thank you Girl Scouts!
