IMG_1483On the night after our Celebrate and Support Hope Event, the Home Builders Foundation had their Building Hope Gala Auction. They raised $270,000 for the shelters they are supporting, including Community of Hope. They featured us in their video. Celebrate and Support Hope Fundraising Event

WIMG_1483hen the Speaker spoke, people listened. Celebrate and Support Hope was the first fundraiser for the two-year old Community of Hope shelter was held at the beautiful North Star Ballroom. Oregon Speaker of the House Tina Kotek (D – 44th Dist. N/NE Portland) congratulated the women’s shelter on its success and held it out as an example of what needs to be done to address Oregon’s homeless crisis.

Preceding Kotek’s talk, an estimated 100 attendees heard from Brandi Tuck,about the housing issues in our city.

Girl Scouts make bookshelves

IMG_1483Girl Scout Troop 40032 made bookshelves for each of the rooms. The girls did this project as part of earning their Silver Award, which is the highest award that a Girl Scout Cadette (ages 11-14 or grades 6-8) can earn, and that they worked on the bookcases one and off for over eight months. St. Johns Christian Clean Up

IMG_1483 St. Johns Christian Church came to clean up our parking lot after they worshiped. They took out a tree, trimmed another tree and bush, moved mounds of bark dust, and cleaned up our sidewalk and parking lot. Even the neighbors got in the act! Later, they brought pillows and toiletries for the families. Their support make it easier to use our parking lot, helped out our neighbors by making our lot more attractive, and showed support for the families who live here. Thank you! See more pictures…

Rotary of Clark County Makes Beds

IMG_1483The Rotary Club of Greater Vancouver joined the Albina Rotary and the Portland’s Rotary Charitable Trust to complete out project of making bunk beds for the families at Community of Hope. This crew provided the labor! They gathered on Friday to cut and prepare the wood, then a huge crowd, joined by a few Community of Hope volunteers (including Linda Jo and her husband, Jerome and famous volunteer Carol) and screwed, sanded, and stained the beds. They’ll some back to finish the job by assembling them in a couple of weeks. The families will be so glad to get up off the mattresses on the floor! See pictures and learn more…
